Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install anything?

No. Everything is in the browser.

How many throws can I analyse?

Your invitation includes a set number of analyses. Re-running the same throw uses another one, so it is worth reading What makes a good video before you spend the first. If you run out and want more, ask.

Does uploading a video analyse it?

Depending on your account, either it starts automatically or you press the ⚡ button on the throw card. Both are covered in What happens next.

How long does it take?

A complete run has been measured at about 15 minutes, most of the first six of which is waiting for a graphics server before your video is looked at. You can close the browser; it keeps going.

The turn count is wrong.

Mark the turn boundaries yourself and re-run — When tracking fails, "Fixing the phases".

The hammer's path jumps around, or disappears.

That is the tracker losing the ball. Mark it in the frames it lost and re-run — When tracking fails, "Fixing the hammer".

Release is marked in the wrong place.

Tag the correct frame and re-run. Same page, "Fixing the phases".

Why is the estimated distance different from what I measured?

It is calculated from the release, and knows nothing about the wind or where the ball actually landed. Use it to compare throws against each other rather than as an absolute.

I re-ran the same video and got slightly different numbers.

The analysis re-does the tracking from the video each time, so small differences are expected. Large differences usually mean the tracking was marginal — worth marking up.

Can I share my results with my coach?

Save the report as a PDF from the report page.

Can I film with a phone?

Yes. Almost all of it is filmed on phones. What makes a good video.

Can I use slow motion?

No. Phone slow-motion modes rewrite the timing information the speed is calculated from.

Is my footage visible to anyone else?

Your throws are yours. Nothing is published anywhere by ThrowSage.
